Technical Certificate Level 0 Summary

Course Objectives:

  • To introduce the fundamental concepts of chords and scales on the guitar at a pre-grade level.
  • To develop the student’s technical ability to play basic guitar chords and scales with accuracy and timing.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understanding of Scales:
    • Students will learn the A minor pentatonic scale with the following notes: root, flat third, fourth, fifth, flat seventh, and root.
    • Students will also learn the E minor pentatonic scale, which uses the same formula as the A minor pentatonic scale.
  2. Chord Playing Techniques:
    • Mastery of the G chord using only one finger placed on the third fret of the high E string.
    • Ability to play the C chord with the middle finger on the second fret of the D string and the index finger on the first fret of the B string.
    • Proficiency in playing the A minor chord as a five-string chord, placing the middle finger on the second fret of the D string, the ring finger on the second fret of the G string, and the index finger on the first fret of the B string.
    • Familiarity with the E minor chord, involving all six strings, with the middle finger on the second fret of the A string and the ring finger on the second fret of the D string.
  3. Practical Application:
    • Students will practice these scales and chords using a metronome to enhance their timing and rhythm.
    • Demonstration of a chord sequence to apply the learned chords in a musical context.
