The G Major Scale

The Major scale is a seven-note scale that forms the foundation of Western music. The formula for the Major scale in terms of intervals is as follows:

Root (R)

Major 2nd (2)

Major 3rd (3)

Perfect 4th (4)

Perfect 5th (5)

Major 6th (6)

Major 7th (7)

For the G Major scale, the notes are:

G (R)

A (2)

B (3)

C (4)

D (5)

E (6)

F# (7)

These notes provide the framework for the G Major scale. When played around the E shape of the CAGED system, this scale covers the notes from the G Major chord rooted on the third fret of the E string.
