Music Theory for Beginners
This music theory course is designed to prepare students for a Grade 1 music theory examination.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to identify and write basic elements of music notation such as;
- Treble and Bass Clef
- Pitches
- Key Signatures
- Tonic Triads
- Scales (C Major, G Major, D Major and F Major)
- Intervals
Students will be able to identify and explain basic elements of notation such as;
- Dynamics
- Musical Instructions
- Tempo and Expression
Students will be able to complete musical extracts by;
- Adding time signatures, bar lines and rests and amend them by grouping notes and rests
Students will be able to answer simple questions relating to
- a melody written in treble or bass clef
It is important to note that this course is not an awarding body and any practice papers or certificates issued are not accredited by any other recognized organization. The course is intended to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of music theory, which can be applied to their musical pursuits.
