The C Minor Pentatonic Scale

The Formula of the Scale

The C Minor Pentatonic scale consists of five notes: C (Root), Eb (minor 3rd), F (4th), G (5th), and Bb (minor 7th). When playing this scale on the A, D, and G strings between the third and sixth frets, we use these notes in the following positions:

  • C (Root): 3rd fret on the A string
  • Eb (minor 3rd): 6th fret on the A string
  • F (4th): 3rd fret on the D string
  • G (5th): 5th fret on the D string
  • Bb (minor 7th): 3rd fret on the G string

By following this pattern, you can play the C Minor Pentatonic scale within the specified fret range.

How to Play the Scale

To play the C Minor Pentatonic scale on the A, D, and G strings between the third and sixth frets, follow these steps:

  1. Starting on the A String:
    • Place your index finger on the 3rd fret of the A string. This note is C (Root).
    • Place your ring finger on the 6th fret of the A string. This note is Eb (minor 3rd).
  2. Moving to the D String:
    • Place your index finger on the 3rd fret of the D string. This note is F (4th).
    • Place your ring finger on the 5th fret of the D string. This note is G (5th).
  3. Moving to the G String:
    • Place your index finger on the 3rd fret of the G string. This note is Bb (minor 7th).
    • Place your ring finger on the 5th fret of the G string. This note is C (Root), completing one octave.

Repeat the pattern up and down the scale to practice smooth transitions and accuracy. Ensure each note rings out clearly before moving to the next.
